“The Nonexistent Knight” | Group exhibition
8 – 18 May, 2025
Metamorphika Studio
171 Morning Lane, London E9 6LH“The Nonexistent Knight” group exhibition takes the form of an armoury and weaponry room on the two floors of Metamorphika Studio gallery, shaped by a new generation of artist’s interpretations on the meaning of armour and the prevalence of neo-medieval art practices. The group show features metal work, weaponry, jewellery, wearable sculpture, paintings and performance.
The exhibition lends its title from the 1959 Italian novel «The Nonexistent Knight». The main character Agilulf is shielded with shining white armour, presenting as a model example of the perfect medieval knight. However, inside of the shining exterior Agilulf lacks a physical body.
“Why don’t you show your face to your king?”
A voice came clearly through the gorge piece. “Sire, because I do not exist!”
Vespera’s contribution, “All That Glitters Is Not Gold” (2025), is a mirror polished brass gauntlet featuring hand engraved gothic lettering. While evoking associations with gang tattoos and renaissance etching, this piece marks a new direction in Vespera’s practice – to dissolve the boundary between sculpture, jewellery and armoury.
